I’m planning on attending two food events next month. Leave a comment below if you want to join me or just meet up afterwards for a debriefing. I’m Cuckoo for Cocoa! (Hold the Puffs) Update: We went. See comments below and photos for details. The first one (chronologically and gastronomically) is
Well, we did it again; another juice fast. This time, for 10 days… er, not counting the unfortunate hot dog I had to eat on Day 6. We timed it to coincide with Sara’s wisdom tooth extraction, since she’d have to be on soft foods for several days anyway. Our food log is below. It’s [...]
What happens when you take four American foodies and send them to Paris in December? Eating. And lots of it. Ron and I just returned from a week in Paris with friends, chock full of epicurean delights. Winter in Paris means thick hot chocolate, roasted chestnuts, steaming meat stews, and mulled wine. (Oh yeah, we [...]
My Restaurant Week, continued. When we last saw our hero, he had just eaten a fantastic meal at Peter Luger. We pick up his story on Saturday morning, in a cozy booth at a small West Village restaurant:
This has been my own, personal Restaurant Week. Monday We saw The Odd Couple, with its star-spangled cast including Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Brad Garrett (of Everybody Loves Raymond), and Olivia D’Abo. The show was disappointingly predictable. A couple of good laughs scattered across 2 hours and 10 minutes, but overall, certainly not recommended. (Other [...]

The last day of our little experiment. I’ll be sorry to see it end–not! Sara’s Juice Fast: Day 3 9am: Earl Grey tea 10:30am: Odwalla orange juice 12:45pm: We ran out of vegetables at home, so I had to buy vegetable juice from Wild Oats (carrot, spinach, parsley, cucumber). This juice machine operator, as well [...]
Sara’s Juice Fast: Day 2 What a night. 2am: Woke up with a splitting headache and nausea. Violently ill for an hour. Threw up several times. (Did some research: this is apparently a not-uncommon “healing crisis” (a.k.a. a Herxheimer Reaction) to detoxification.)
Inspired by a friend, we’ve started our first juice fast. Inspired by on-line strangers, we’ve decided to keep a diary of it. Sara’s Juice Fast: Day 1 8am: Sara’s fast begins. One cup of green tea. “This is easy!”
I was recently chatting with a friend, when the subject of dessert came up (go figure). Dessert, on that particular night, was to consist of pluots (a.k.a. plumcots or apriums (apria?)) and papaya. My friend hadn’t heard of pluots, so I gleefully explained to her what they are (a cross between a plum and an [...]
Summer is almost here. Be prepared. P.S., The banana is Sara’s.
…or is it just me?
Yesterday Mrs. Right-brane and I will have been married for exactly 3 months. No, make that 3 «wonderful» months. To celebrate, we had a lovely, long(!) dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant, Domani Star. For the curious, our prix fixe selections were:
